Leon H. Sullivan Foundation
About The Foundation

Advocacy

In order to preserve the legacy of Rev. Sullivan, the Foundation engages in public and government advocacy in support of the domestic and international issues that were important to him and on behalf of the organizations he created.  Although the issues range from housing and equal employment rights in the Unite States to a system of fair international trade for Africa, like the Reverend, the Foundation has one bottom line objective: to give a voice to those who are locally, nationally or internationally marginalized.

Domestic Issues

Poverty in the United States continues to be a multidimensional problem. In the 1960s, Rev. Sullivan argued the whole person—her and his sprit, mind and body—was affected by the insecurity of living without basic economic means.  Today, the Foundation champions a range of issues including skill training and employment, literacy, access to quality health and education.  The Foundation not only advocates for these issues in Congress, but also works with Opportunities Industrializations Centers of America (OICA) and with corporate and other private organizations to satisfy the existing needs of underserved communities and individuals.
