Clinton Global Initiative Acknowledges the Commitment of the
Global Sullivan Principles
Leon Sullivan Foundation Receives Special Recognition
September 21, 2005- During the Clinton Global Initiative last week, the Global Sullivan Principles were singled out for the program’s commitment to work with companies over the next year to ensure that their corporate social responsibility programs contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. Hope Sullivan, President and CEO of the Leon Sullivan Foundation was given a special award in recognition of the pledging to grow the program substantially by the next meeting of the Global Clinton Initiative in 2006.
Dr. Witney W. Schneidman, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs in the Clinton administration, serves as the Director of the Global Sullivan Principles (GSP). “I am thrilled by the challenge of working to make the Global Sullivan Principles the industry-leader in corporate social responsibility,” said Dr. Schneidman. “Reverend Sullivan was a giant among men not only for his vital contribution to the peaceful dismantling of apartheid in Africa, but for his bold vision for making corporate investments more ethical and equitable in the 21st century.”
Created by the late Reverend Leon H. Sullivan in 1999, the GSP is a code of conduct designed to have companies and organizations of all sizes, in widely disparate industries and cultures, working toward the common goals of human rights, social justice and economic opportunity. For more information on the Global Sullivan Principles, please visit its website at www.thegsp.org.
The GSP has already been endorsed by many businesses and organizations, large and small, with more expressing interest every day. The Sullivan Foundation welcomes comments from all interested parties.
